the 6th offering by public possession comes from our old friend anton klint. we have been playing records together for many years and he is for sure one of the best rock/disco djs we know. he has put out a few records together with his partner edvin edvinson as tiedye in the past, but this is his first ever solo production to be released. we are very happy that we could work with him on this one and are now able to present to you the spritzer ep.

something tells me this ones gonna be big. uzuri 020 comes from jitterbug, and its great to have him back. followers of the label will be very familiar with this producers work, even if they know very little about the man himself. im not going to shatter the mystique.

after a best-selling debut record, low budget family - an independent moscow-based record label run by the crew behind the legendary shop&bar denis simachev formation return, and how! king solomons mines from simple symmetry is quite a classic in the making - a deceptively simple workout that reminds of mid 80s boyd jarvis jams, but shot through with 21st century twists and turns, that amplify those tough drum machines, anthemic afro elements, chants and marimba riffing. add a truly dynamic arrangement and you have a dancefloor dynamite! it is disco royalty on the remix tip as soft rocks & brennan green step up. as expected, given the incredible ingredients, the two of them shine. soft rocks set up a classic euro flavoured afro-trance workout, utilising the parts against a far more electronic and unrelenting backdrop, building to a sweaty, strobe-lit finale. brennan green may be less than prolific these days, but he is dependable as ever here. working up a synth-soaked, prelude style dub, whose classic elements will work the floor from here to zanzibar…

for nearly two decades, ploink has promoted techno nights around norway, presenting local talent as well as some of the biggest acts from around the world. we just really like techno. our definition of the genre is fairly wide though, constantly evolving, which we have attempted to reflect in this our first release, compiling four very different tracks by local producers from our hometown of bergen. setting up a label branch has for years been a burried, old plan. to us, techno parties, no matter how unique and brilliantly planned, have such a short lifespan, and as such it feels good to finally start releasing something that can get a life of its own, perhaps grow into something entirely different.

inspired by the musical lineage of london, chicago, new york and detroit, elements of house music, techno music, bass culture and the rhythms of west africa are all to be found here. distinctive in its raw immediacy, drumtalks music belongs in the same dark corners of the dancefloor as daphni, midland and eliphino. his productions and remixes for more music, sofrito, soundway, huntleys & palmers and now getme! have been making an impact far and wide, getting attention of djs such as james holden, jackmaster, gilles peterson and skream. forthcoming single snb /super vega has received radio play on rinse fm, radio 1 and radio 6.

the second vinyl is full of remixes from the first one. the small vinyl manufactory in the tree house is working in high quality. et voilá, david last (incl. dop voices), demas, florist and sebastian albrecht are the remixers and they have placed their saws and axes in the shed and carved a few tasteful sounds in electronic sisyphean. like the first release, it is musical understatement with pure groove research and a commitment to a culture of sound of the early perlon vinyls. stay tuned for more high quality music.

trunk - and branches fetched by klangscheiben manager demas with diligent helpers from the forest. they built a wooden house of joy in the middle of the thuringian pampa. in the tree house they set up a small vinyl manufactory. what counts is lively, honest craftsmanship. hunter s tree! here they are, the pieces of wood, uh vinyl. scratched into the inner bark stands out: artists have placed their saws and axes in the shed and carved a few tasteful sounds in electronic sisyphean. chapeau et voilà, because what s crawling out of the wood boxes (clearly!) is not a worm, but musical understatement with pure groove research and a commitment to a culture of sound of the early perlon vinyls. oh god, always these analogies... but there were, no, there are good times for good music! this is magnificent fizzle funk with emo edge. relish and dance!

f.i.c is an initiative by darker than wax (singapore) and cascade records (france), independent labels from different continents have come together to present a very special and heartfelt project. this lp marks a milestone, besides being an exclusive collaboration between the labels, it also features a conglomerate of many different artistes from all over the world.

nobody can deny the fact that vilnius in lithuania is currently a very creative and agile place. first and foremost mario basanov of course, whose ten walls moniker swept the board last year and whose hype seems to have only just started. his popularity was heightened by the start of his own label boso. it took off with the highly praised -walking with elephants-, which was already one of the biggest tunes of this summer, before it even came out. the second release is by few nolder, another highly talented native from vilnius, who showed frst signs of life on connaisseur with his lovely tune -space espace- on our last edition of livingroom techno as well as with his remix for -canto d amore- by marco effe & francesco carone. -clouds- is the name of his boso release, and it looks to be the next big thing for this young label. for his frst own release on connaisseur he delivered -if-.the fact that it is different from his other output is why we have decided to present this tune in two versions as a 10- vinyl-only single. the original is a summerish and catchy house cut with a bouncy bassline and a slightly uk-approach.this tune makes you move without there being much you can do about it. the alt version goes deeper, building up with a question/answer theme until a strong, driving piano element joins to complete the track. lovers of older pokerflat releases will truly enjoy this version.

for the second release on cb sessions christian teamed up with his old friend tomio tremmel, who is better known as -the sushi club- the guys spent some all night long sessions to tweak the gear. influenced by modular systems, the virus ti, tanzbär and the jomox 888 this ep offers a widespread variety of club sounds and results in three different electronic tunes, which are hard to describe … so you have to listen to it! also represented on this ep is italians best markus fix. since he has first heard christians -doubledub- he secretly trained everyday to sing the -supi dubi- hook. finally, after six years, he had the chance to present his skills in christians studio. don t miss the final tune - just supi dupi!

for the next lost release leftwing & kody have drafted in max chapman. only three years ago max was tipped by pete tong as one to watch. on side a, the lead track temperature is a delightful slice of deep house with lingering bassy washes, jacking drum patterns topped off with a killer female voice

idjut boys started in early 90s, when house music was heading for the bubbly, wild excitement, and they have always been active in an underground scene which has been drawing the line at the mainstream. carrying on the tradition of house and disco, they have ever played an important role in forming the house and disco culture in uk, producing the intoxicating groove of funk and dub, which is the significant factor in house and disco.

the next outing on mora music comes from leeds based tms, delivering two well-rounded & versatile tracks. *fuck you, pay me* is the peak timer with firing, pounding kick drums and off-key stabs in the background. it builds to a crescendo of intense feedback, before suddenly dropping with the bass line you have been waiting for. *slomotion* on the b-side is the slow burner of the ep confirmed by the beautiful hook that comes in halfway through the track. rounding off the release comes a remix of slomotion from mora music favourite bobby o donnell. this hypnotic trippy little number raises the bar, taking the track to an intense dance floor high.

2014 repress !! salz have done another rework for telrae we are really happy with and on the flip side there is a remix from the cologne artists joerg mueller who has remixed salz stainless dub.with very much attention for the sound. joerg develops sounds for cars as a profession.

nathan fake and wesley matsell are both producers best known for their releases on border community - nathan fake has been putting out psychedelic permutations on dance music since 2003 for the label, while matsell recently released the blissful total order of being ep for them earlier in 2014. cambria instruments is a new label venture from the pair, and for the first release they have teamed up for a split 12- of kaleidoscopic electronic sounds. nathan fake s contribution black drift starts things off, an initially inauspicious tripping beat gathering momentum and morphing into a far-out piece of fuzzy house underpinned by sunken low-end rumbles. it s the kind of brilliantly wide-eyed track we have come to expect from the producer. over on the flip, wesley matsell s bismuth is a more shadowy, moody affair, a tight techno rhythm holding things together while synths spin wildly. a highly expressive, lysergic trip and one of his finest productions to date. all in all, you couldn t hope for a stronger start from a new label.

there is an alternative reality known as the big funk factory. those unsuspecting travellers who fall into this other place find themselves exposed to many characters and tales from this universe. once inducted into this particular charged vacuum embodiment you have only one choice but to go on and familiarise yourself with the history and people involved in the hope that you ll find a way through to the other side, but beware the experience and sensations may be seductive, you may choose to remain. be aware it is an audio, visual and kind of literate assault on the senses. the beginning in the loosest possible use of the term starts with the creation of the creature known as d-roid. as a new entrant, before conducting yourself through each chapter, perhaps you should familiarise yourself with the characters involved in those disreputable individuals featured in this episode.

no artificial colours have been busy. the south east london duo lewis wright and ryan ellis have been name checked by everyone from maya jane coles and jamie jones to cyril hahn and paul woolford and legends such as kerri chandler. following their recent smash for pmr *reach for me* (feat. alex mills) no artificial colours are back with a late night ep for kerri chandlers madtech records.
the menace ep sums up everything that is exciting about the no artificial colours sound: raw, soulful, rooted in classic garage and house, big room party vibes with underground cool, it is no surprise to see the pair have been highly lauded by the likes of pitchfork, vice, i-d and fact of late.

it s been a long, long time since coyu produced an ep full of original tracks for his beloved kitty label. september of 2013 was the last party groovers from him. through all these months our mastercat has released several eps on cocoon recordings, snatch! records, noir music, bedrock records and some edits and original tracks with ramiro lopez and edu imbernon that have been released on suara. finally, we have our mastercat alone with two oustanding cuts. in my mind is a dark techno track with a break that it will literally blow your head up... balls , however, is a very housey and summery cut that will definetely break your hips because of the instantly recognisable vocals and the killer darbuka rhythm. enjoy this is 100% coyu!

though the iconic imagery of disco feels distinctly tied to the united states, the style had a wide-reaching influence that made it’s way to africa. while africa was already no stranger to the pulsing rhythms of funk, afro-beat, and highlife, the rise of disco added a slick sheen to the music, with musicians from all over the continent incorporating elements of the genre into their sounds. would there ever have been a studio 54 in ghana in late 70s, these would have been the recordings that would have packed the dance floor with their deep root in disco, soul & funk! an album recorded in the late 70s packed full of legendary musicians such as harry mosco and many more… to be re-discovered 35 years after it’s initial vinyl release as a private press. a “disco documentary full of funk” proves that it stands the test of time by sounding as fresh and original as any other sought-after disco / soul funk lp from the west coast of africa in the late 70s. bbe went on another crate-digging journey and found the original producer reindorf nana oppong and the original master tapes were dusted off, transferred to digital. in the process of this, even un-released material was discovered on the tapes, which makes this a rather special package. “nana love - disco documentary full of funk” is one special journey through afro disco & boogie in the late 70s, and we at bbe can guarantee that you won’t be disappointed!!!

working together on-and-off at their respective bases in london and edinburgh, leonidas & hobbes have honed a mutual love of soul, acid, house, techno, psychedelic and dub sounds for mo machines. their collaborative debut ep, machines, tapes & electronic setups (hm002), won fans across the board last year.

if you have spent some time in the nightclubs of amsterdam, you will probably have shaken a leg to the selecting skills of mr. mendel. youll find him often spinning side by side with rahaan, whos releasing mr. mendels edits on his third installment of street edits. including a respectful dance floor take on * mind powe*, the island disco stomper * boogie with the channel* and a gospel-like hypnotizing version of * spirit, the power*. this soulful 12- will certainly light up some dance floors around the world...

usually found in partnership with blocks on their own narratives imprint, here we find escher flying solo with two beautifully contrasting compositions. deep architecture has already been causing a big stir online due to its wild time signature and off-beat percussive patterns. physically its drum & bass, but mentally its most definitely techno as it pummels with loopy drum insistency. spirit bounce, meanwhile, is a stark and breezy stepper that oozes space and shimmers with emotive synths. its a simple but soulful synthesis many have attempted over the year but only few have mastered... klute, marcus intalex and now escher, too. the return of 31 has been one of d&bs best stories so far this year.

after his big success with waehlscheibe 003, p. laoss returns on the swiss label with another dub house masterpiece. the german producer has once more switched on his reverb and delay gear and created a wonderful record full of fluffy chords, gentle pads and heavy basses. >rephrasing dub<, >i dont care< and >never though< all display the mans musical mastery in terms of harmony, variety and dramatic expression. in his remix of >i dont care<, federsen from san francisco has taken the crispy deep original and turned it into a broken beat stunner brimming with dubby crackles, noises and delays – all created with his analogue machines. as always all tracks have been mastered by above smoke at the hole of dub studio.

itokim, aka tendo-based producer takuro ito, aligns with dj bone s subject detroit label with the subject japan: rhythm poems ep and his opening gambit certainly leaves a dent. -motechnique- has been a staple of bone s 3 deck attacks in recent months and it will have eyebrows raised and mouths open from the off. weighty but warm kicks start as they mean to go on, bursting with pace and vigour as thrusts and stabs pinprick the brooding chords. the laidback, easy-going connotations of the title to -roll up and shine- are very much the ethos and aesthetic of the production, as a playful, bubbling melody sets a warm and almost sugary tone from the off before being bolstered by a suave melange of full-bodied kick and dexterous percussion. itokim rounds off his first outing on subject detroit with -the mood device-, a to the point groover that melds elements of the previous productions to stunning effect. a genuine builder of a track with a straight and true trajectory, -the mood device- melds innumerable coatings of percussion and synth as stabs are layered and layered again, clotting and coagulating the composition in to one delightfully deep and multidimensional slice of formidable dancefloor composite.

spritual south have developed a real reputation for quality through the years with many established djs and producers counting themselves as fans. now it’s time to give the basic fingers fans two tight & timeless grooves. ‘everyday’ is simply seductive feel good vibes and ‘gonna getcha’ on the b-side is keeping the boogie side of the disco fire burning. hot stuff!

to rack & ruin comes thundering your way slap bang in time for summer courtesy of our italian disco brother in arms dj rocca and his compardre n2b. the usual high standard of sounds are as present as ever on the 6th instalment of our edits and reworks imprint. get up hits you with a rolling bassline that brims with plenty of pant flapping groove & wah wah guitar licks before that ever so familiar vocal kicks in for a full on reggae disco workout. weird safari certainly lives up to its name - a stripped back, dark & almost techno sound, alongside tinkering percussion and spaced out wild animal noises surely make for a weird safari. dubby pino has you from the off, all the foot stamping & money shaking elements are present - hooky guitar, fat bass loop, infectious percussion, soulful vocal licks and a gorgeous little piano break. mr rossi’s backpain starts off by getting the award for the best song title we’ve ever had on rack & ruin, but as well as that it’s in the proper groovy dance floor tackle category with a bassline & guitar that commands your respect and then when the 4/4 kicks in at 1 min, well just have a listen.

groove line records completes the summer schedule with the third 12” in our series of properly licensed rare disco / funk reissues. next up is another title from the collector’s holy grail, the brothers’ promo 12” for the 1976 album don t stop now. this features one of the most sought after instrumental tracks of the 1970 s, under the skin. a luscious disco orchestration with full horn and string sections playing alongside an infectious conga groove played and arranged by warren schatz and his band, the brothers. the second side has long versions of two tracks from the album, brothers theme and make love. both tracks have the same hallmark of luxurious string and brass sections as under the skin with the brothers providing the driving grooves and bhen lanzaroni coming to the fore with his keyboard skills. all groove line records releases are fully licensed and taken from the original master tapes, remastered by nick robbins at sound mastering, and cut by matt colton at alchemy (mastering engineer of the year 2013). all vinyl is heavy weight 180g manufactured optimal media in germany, one of the world’s finest pressing plants. groove line records cut no corners when making sure that each and every one of our releases has the highest quality performance possible. the next three 12s are due in the autumn. groove line records’ deluxe reissue of under the skin is an essential purchase for any serious disco, jazz or funk vinyl collector who demands the very best in quality vinyl pressings

taken from a mysterious acetate cut by derrick may in 1987 this release was originally penned for kms offshoot pheerce citi. both these sides were later released - the darkside = as a relic (by longer than long ago) and tic tic tic was later released on the limited edition compilation as music institute 20th anniversary as untitled. both tracks are however, very hard to get on vinyl and have now been re issued as loud 45rpm pressings in pheerce citi artwork and remastered for 2014. great techno obscurity!
